Before Your Wax
Here are step-by-step prep tips to get your skin ready for your next waxing experience, and soothing post wax routines to calm possible irritation. Whether it's your first wax or you're a Waxaddict vet, these essential before and after practices will help you look and feel your best every time.
1
Hair Length
Hair should be about 1/4 inch (the length of a grain of rice). If hair is too short, wax won't grip. Too long-waxing can be more painful but DO NOT TRIM!! I'll handle that if needed.
2
Gently Exfoliate (48 hours before)
Use a mild scrub, dry brush or exfoliating glove to slough away dead skin cells, This prevents ingrown hairs and allows wax to adhere evenly.
3
Clean & Dry Skin
Shower with an oil free, pH balanced cleanser right before your appointment. Do not moisturize as moisture interferes with wax adhesion.
4
Avoid Irritants (24 hours before)
No sunbathing, tanning beds, or self-tanners. Skip retinols, AHAs/BHAs, or chemical peels in the waxing area.
5
Skip Caffeine & Alcohol (12 hours before)
Both heighten sensitivity and can cause a more uncomfortable waxing experience.
6
Wear Comfortable Clothing
Wearing loose, breathable clothing (dress, cotton leggings, etc) can prevent friction and irritation after your wax.
After Your Wax
1
Avoid Heat & Sweat (24 hours)
No hot baths/showers, saunas, steam rooms, or intense workouts. Heat and sweat can cause redness, irritation, or pustules.
2
Hands Off (24-48 hours)
Don't pick, scratch, or exfoliate the waxed area. Let hair follicles settle to reduce risk of ingrowns.
3
Skip Harsh Products (48 hours)
No peels, retinoids, glycolic acids, or heavy creams on the waxed area. Use only gentle, fragrance- free moisturizers
4
Gentle Exfolitation (72 hours)
Resume light exfoliation, using an exfoliating glove or scrub, every 2-3 days. This keeps skin smooth and prevents ingrown hairs.
5
Sun & Tanning (72 hours)
Avoid direct sun and tanning beds. If you must be outdoors, apply a broad spectrum SPF 30+
6
Loose Clothing
Continue wearing breathable, non-restrictive clothing for at least 24 hours.
6
Hydrate
Drink plenty of water to support skin healing from within. Hydrating also keeps the skin plump and helps decrease discomfort during your next wax.
